Lou: Hello everyone, I am delighted to have a guest on the podcast with me in this episode.
So I’ve got Kat Glenn with me. Kat’s going to tell us about intuition and how it shows up in business for them and how it’s helped resolve things for Kat. So welcome.
Kat: Thank you so much, I’m so excited to be here.
Introducing Kat
Lou: So I thought we could begin with you telling us a little bit about yourself. Give us some understanding about who you are and what you do.
Kat: Yeah, absolutely. I’m Kat, they/them pronouns. My micro business is Rainbow Dot Spirituality.
I help people come back home to themselves with tarot, yoga, practices to feel present. The world can feel like too much, especially for us entrepreneurs, sensitive soul creatives. It’s nice to have little rituals and practices so that we can feel present with those feelings and experiences and not feel like we have to numb and disassociate.
I live in Phoenix, Arizona, the stolen indigenous homelands of the O’Odham and the Piipaash peoples in the United States as it exists currently.
And I’ve got a lovely little doggo. His name is Oregano. He is a boxer/akita mix and I’ve been married for nine years now. I don’t know if that’s good.
Lou: That’s amazing. That’s perfectly encapsulates you, it sounds like. It’s very good. It sounds like you’ve been doing this before. Been doing podcast interviews?
Kat: I’ve done it, maybe like one or two.
Lou: Fair enough, I guess you were born a natural at this.
Kat: Oh good. Perfect.
Lou: So I’m glad you acknowledge what you do in helping people sort of step into their calm down and step into their presence and I wanted to say this and I don’t want to sugarcoat. We can acknowledge that there’s parts of the world right now where we’re feeling a little bit tense and reactive. I guess that’s especially true for the United States.
Kat: Yes.
Lou: So you’re doing very valuable work.
Kat: Thank you, it feels like I could never… there will always be work and I could never do it all… Solve it all but one of my business values is the power of a little bit. And things feel like way too much just to notice what small thing can you do like for yourself, for community, for the world.
When we pour compassion into ourselves it flows out from there. And to stay focused on the things that you can do and that it doesn’t have to be the same as what other people might be doing. And I think that helps us keep pushing those ripples of positive change forward without getting into that spiritual bypassing toxic positivity of like just be happy. Genocide isn’t happy, so liberation for all beings doesn’t mean you have to be happy all the time.
It’s okay to have joyful moments. Like that’s part of the work. But yeah you like all of your feelings are welcomed. And I think when we’re present with those that’s when we can really tap into our creativity and our innovation.
No matter like what kind of work we do when we’re present with our feelings and we’re in our body that’s when we can really make some powerful cool stuff.
Lou: Yeah I agree and I feel like… Anywhere in life just life generally or in business I imagine that more meaningful progress can happen when we’re doing it from a better place.
Kat: Absolutely.
Yeah and then we’re more present with the like celebrations the wins the successes too. Because something I find with a lot of the small business owners that I work with is that they’ll reach a goal and they’re like, “okay now what’s next?” And it’s like how but we celebrate that one? That was good. You worked hard on that you know we could be here for a little bit.
Lou: Yeah yeah yeah. I see that. Yeah I totally agree. I feel like it’s in our nature as humans… Just by the way our brain works we tend to just focus automatically on any kind of negative thing going on in our world. And that’s unfortunate but you do work on some practices that’ll help us feel better and not focus on those negative things so much.
Kat: Yeah and I think it makes sense the brain’s trying to protect us from those things happening again so stay focused on it but like anything we can kind of like rewire those pathways and like and think our brain like things are trying to keep us safe but like we’ve got it we don’t have to protect ourselves from the big feelings we can be with them and you know and choose like whatever whatever feels joyful whatever feels aligned whatever whatever feels right for you perfect.
What is intuition according to Kat?
Lou: So Kat pretend I know nothing about intuition. Explain it!
Kat: Yeah there’s many many schools of thought on intuition. So I’m just going to give a quick little dirty on like different ways to conceptualise it.
Because everyone experiences it. Different cultures and teachings talk about it. Like your gut reactions… People talk about like your body wisdom… Like that yes or no you get in your body.
In yogic philosophy it’s like our third eye or intuition that like that inner knowing. And they’re all… I think they’re all beautiful descriptions of it and it’s like those little tinglings that you get.
Really like I knew it you know someone tells you a story and you’re like I knew that was going to happen.
Like I brought my sweater today and I had no idea why and then it was the air conditioner was broken. I was so cold and I was glad I had my sweater. Like all those little moments those are in my opinion intuition.
And the more that we can tap in and listen because regardless of your like spiritual religious views right…
Scientifically we have all this matter and it’s energy it’s vibration. And to think that we’re not affected by the other energy and vibrations around us I think is maybe like a little egotistical you know.
If you go be in the grass that can feel nice and soothing because you’re affected by the vibration of the earth of the grass.
And our bodies are really wise and powerful and they’re picking up on all these subtle energetics. I think that’s how intuition comes in in terms of like sorting through that. Like our bodies little algorithm taking in all this information.
Like okay this is what I think it means and giving us little nudges and messages so that we… I believe it’s because like the universe is like trying to put us on our like our most aligned highest path. And not in like a hierarchical sense but like where you’re your most full self and you’re like sharing your gifts with the world in a joyful way and our intuition helps us helps us find our path and continue on it. And feel confident. As confident as we can as little messy humans having this earth experience do it… Like sharing our gifts and doing the things that we do.
Yeah, how’s that?
Lou: yeah that makes sense yeah I I don’t believe we live in The Matrix or any kind of computer simulation the world in the universe around us is based on vibrations that our minds interpret one way or another. Whether you believe that spiritually or not as you said science can show that there are vibrations in the world around us and our brains interpret signals into sounds and visions.
I also think that no matter what’s going on there is a part of ourselves whether you call it a soul or whether you call it the cells in our body that’s not really our consciousness but something deeper inside us that wants
the best for ourselves.
Kat: Absolutely! And like I believe like we’re all made of magic.
We’re all like this energy these vibrations are like magical. And so like the fabric of the universe is magic and so are you.
But in a different way we’re using different words right? We’re still like… If we feel the power of nature right…
We go outside and it can feel like…
So soothing to our nervous system,
So grounding,
So calming,
It’s because we’re remembering that we’re nature embodied too.
Because we’re also nature.
And so there’s lots of different ways.
One of my mentors says like: creator the universe god of your understanding like whatever language you want to use vibration… Like to me they’re just different conceptualisations of like the same thing. Because diversity begets so many different perspectives and ways to talk about it.
So we can you know resonate with the ones that resonate with us. And other people can understand in a different way.
It doesn’t have to be the words that I use that like you feel good for you right but we can we can talk about it in these different ways. And I feel like you see that with like a lot of indigenous teachings from different cultures right? Like there’s like yoga and Tai Chi and like movement. Most cultures have like some sort of drumming and making medicine plants.
I think that’s really cool and beautiful how people are like trying to understand the world, trying to understand ourselves… And we end up in very similar places. Even if we put people in different places and they find the meaning of life… People are out there doing it. Yeah, it just tickles me.
Lou: Yeah I love that too. I kind of wish there was more of that stuff in my local area that I could interact with. Because you know that there are indigenous people in Australia but they don’t really have that much presence around here. If you know anything about our history you know. Which is there kind of a bit disappointing.
But I was just thinking just generally like… These these cultures had a lot of stuff figured out before the white colonisers did. They had it figured out in such a deep way. And you’d just look at them and go, “oh but they’re just primitives living in mud and stick huts. They don’t know anything.”
Kat: yeah I feel like the most petty thing is the judgement. They don’t know what they’re doing. But it just looks different I think too is like one of the greatest travesties of white supremacy and like colonisation in general is that it disconnects us from our roots. Whether you’re white or indigenous or black or person of the global majority, white supremacy wants to disconnect you from your roots. Because wherever you’re from there’s cultures right that had robust technologies and like figured it out listening nature.
By trying to homogenise and like I don’t know streamline into into whiteness right, you had to leave those traditions and stuff behind.
But the gift is that knowledge is still in your in your body and your blood and your bones.
And it can come through an intuition.
And it can be reclaimed in a lot of ways,
Remembered and reclaimed regardless of what your lineages are.
Some of these things can be remembered or replanted if you will in our little spiritual existence gardens.
It is hard to think back on the history know precious magics and gifts and practices were lost because because of fear and judgement.
I’m gonna bring it full circle: It’s like that’s why it’s really important to stay with present with our feelings; Because if we have processes to be like I’m afraid of this different thing right? Which is kind of a human response. It happens to move through that and then not act completely guided by that fear.
There’s a lot more possibilities for understanding and collaboration and innovation and learning.
Lou: Cool yeah, and those things they feel nice.
Kat: Yeah absolutely.
Lou: Cool. All right. So let’s step back into intuition… Although that stuff is really important and I’d love to talk more! But maybe we can do that another day.
How Kat uses intuition in their business
So could you tell us about how intuition plays out for you in your business? How it’s led you to some sort of outcome or success?
Kat: Yeah absolutely. The most like notable moment where I was like “wow my intuition like really helped me out” was before I started this business. I was a high school special education teacher, and I taught high school special ed for seven years. I felt like my intuition was nudging me to leap the classroom and my body was telling me to. The anxiety was really high I was developing insomnia again and it was like I gotta go.
So I left the classroom in 2019. May of 2019, the last school year here before COVID, which was a blessing for my life; Because that would have been extremely difficult! Knowing that when I taught in the classroom, it would at the beginning of the year… It usually took us like 20 minutes to get my students logged into their little Chromebook computers. And that was like where I could be like, “your caps-lock is on!” I can see you know going wrong! I could only imagine trying to help them with that while they’re at home.
And along with all the other stress of that time it ended up being kind of like a bumpy time for me. But without that I don’t know that my business would exist. And certainly wouldn’t exist in the way that it does now.
I personally believe our intuition will just like keep turning up the volume until we listen…
Keep nudging us in the in the direction…
There’s something in the tarot reading community that we’ll say: “what’s meant for you won’t miss you.”
Your body is going to just keep getting louder and louder. Like, “hey listen to me!” Where you’re like, “hey I know I need extra rest but like I can’t right now.” And then suddenly you’re sick.
Intuition can help us in big and little ways.
Body pendulum
One of my, especially if you’re like newer to intuition or tapping into like body wisdom… One of my favourite practices… And I still use it even though I like to make space for like listening to my intuition… And use it to help me with pricing and deciding if I’m going to launch something… Picking a date… When am I going to do this event… It’s a practice called body pendulum.
So I don’t know if you’re familiar, it’s a little magical tool it’s like a little chain with a little rock on the end. And you can use it for divination.
Lou: Oh yes that thing.
Kat: Yep. Yeah to get yes no answers but you can also do that with your own body. And I personally prefer body pendulum because I’m never somewhere without my body. And to calibrate your body pendulum; basically so you know what a yes answer and a no answer is.
For me “yes” is leaning forward “no” is leaning back. But you can find out whatever direction it is for you. Maybe it’s right or left… By asking questions you know the answer to and then figuring out where your “yes” or “no” are… And that can be really helpful.
Because sometimes we’re out and about; Especially if you’re at a networking event and you’re meeting someone. Maybe there’s a time sensitive decision that you need to make. But it’s hard when you’re… Maybe a little more… Your nervous system is a little more activated… You’re a little more anxious, you’re feeling everybody else’s vibration and energy. And so if you can just take a little minute and like check in with your body pendulum.
“Do I… Do I want to agree to host this thing? Or say yes to this event?” And it can be really helpful.
Bnd the more we listen to our bodies the more we hear those messages before they start turning on the volume. it’s just nice it’s nice to like feel grounded and confident. and I think like getting that yes or no from your body can feel can feel really empowering. which I love to see for people.
Lou: Yeah it’s a beautiful thing if you’ve got it. If you don’t then the aftermath of whatever you’ve done can be messy or awkward. Or [you’ll] dwell on what happened because it was messy and awkward.
Kat: Yeah. And I feel like sensitive people… And I find like small business owners especially tend to have a lot of people pleasing in perfectionism patterns. Right? So we’re more inclined to say yes to things that don’t actually feel good for us.
And so I love body pendulum and other tapping into your intuition practices. So that people kind of feel more strong and saying no to the things that are unknown for them… Clear space in our little business gardens for the things that we actually want to grow. To blossom and bloom…
Like if we have too many things in our garden they kind of tend to suffocate each other. So you got to pull out the little weeds. And maybe what I think is a weed you think is a beautiful bloom, and you would want to keep in your garden.
If you’re like working on healing those patterns to like body pendulum… And your intuition can help you just feel feel more strong, feel more confident about what’s right for you. And choosing that because it’s a choice that we can make.
Lou: Yeah exactly!
And not just that but, the way that you describe things; The metaphors that you use, that may not be the thing that clicks with you. And that’s totally okay too. You could use a totally different metaphor in your own mind to represent the garden or whatever else you want to call it.
Kat: Mm-hmm absolutely. Yeah I know some people that feel like their intuition is like a color or a sound. Or like can have a texture or a certain vibration. They’re like, “I can feel like the vibrating right between my eyeballs and my eyebrows.” Or like, “I can feel like everyone’s different.” And that’s so cool. And the more that you tap into yours that’s just such a beautiful thing.
Lou: Yeah. Yeah like for me it’s kind of like the eastern concept of Chi or ki. I feel like my ki is sort of extending out of my body and pulling me towards a person or a place.
Kat: It could be like that. Yeah absolutely.
And I love hearing how people experience it. One because we’ll have like a bunch of Gemini placements on the astrological chart, and we just like we love to hear people’s stories… Hear the tea… But it also helps me as a spaceholder. Because the more different experiences I hear, the more I can offer. Like oh for some people it feels like this and then they could be like oh mine’s kind of like that.
And because it’s human nature to want to feel seen, you know? Knowing how other people experience it can help me help someone else feel seen. And I think that’s really powerful too.
Lou: Hmm yeah. That’s beautiful.
Kat: I think it really helps to, yeah, be able to relate to the people that you’re working with. Because we’re all different and it and it feels different for a lot of us. And I find this really true in like the spiritual magical community, but then they also find it really true in like the small business community; Where you have like marking those that are like, “this is the way to like sell you.”
The magical communities like kind of the same. Like, “this is the way to tap into your intuition.” And it’s like it’s a way. It might give you the egg, you know? And that’s okay.
Lpu: Yeah I was going to say like… If anyone happens to be listening to this… And if they’re still listening… And they just… The word “magic” just it doesn’t connect with them… There’s other ways to explain what this is right?
Kat: Yeah absolutely. Like that gut reaction… That feeling when you’re like “I don’t know why I took that route home from work last last night but I did. And then I heard there was a car accident somewhere else.” And just I like I’ve gravitated to the word that feels the best for me. But that doesn’t make it the right one the only one. Find the things that feel good for you. And I think like whether you call it intuition or gut reaction or whatever… Like feeling really like grounded and solid. And like what you want to do and what how like you choose to spend your time is power.
That’s really cool.
Call it intuition cool.
If you don’t also cool.
But whatever works for you. Whatever helps.
You do things that you do because like your work is needed in the world.
Only you can do the work that you’re called to do.
Everyone has like their different calling in the way that their gifts, their talents mix in with the things that they feel in their heart.
We’re all needed for like different different roles.
In yogic tradition it’s called Dharma; That overlap of your talents and that feeling of responsibility towards community in the world.
These are all just different tools to help us share our gifts, our talents, our magic, if you will… Or not!
Lou: Yeah. Yeah and what you said earlier was really cool that knowing
that you can tap into your intuition your, present moment awareness, your gut feeling: That is powerful knowing that you’ve got that.
Remembering that you have that even when you might be feeling, “oh I’m so overwhelmed there’s so many things going on!.” If you can remember that and remind yourself that you have this power, I think that’s really warming to know.
Kat: Yeah absolutely.
If it’s feeling hard to hear… a little stuck… generally that means you just need to carve out a little bit more space for it. There’s probably a lot of other noise that’s drowning it out. This happens to me when I go to my friend’s yoga class and I’ve been like “busy busy busy.” I’ll finally lay down and I’m like suddenly I’m writing my email newsletter. I’m like, “we’ve cleared out some space, and all the creative ideas are coming through.”
So whatever carves out space for you is how you can create that spaciousness in your life, in your business. And that’s how connection with that gut reaction, that intuition, and your creative flow will come on.
We need space for it to flow.
Lou: Yeah, so true!
Well this is actually a good moment to wrap up. But before before we do this is also a good moment to segue into telling us how we can work with you because it sounds like you can teach us Kat.
How Kat can help you tap in to intuition
Kat: I have, as a neurodivergent entrepreneur, I have a variety of different offers. I would say the most aligned one is my newest one it’s called Magick You Seek. It’s a micro learning course in community. So each lesson somewhere between like two to fifteen minutes long to help you tap into your psychic gifts, to tap into your intuition more. I also offer tarot readings one-on-one present sessions and even deeper containers if that’s something that you’re interested in.
I love connecting so feel free to hop on my newsletter follow me on social media @RainbowDotSpirituality
I do little daily presence moments that are usually like a minute to three minutes long, to just help you come back in your body. That’ll give you a good sense of what it’s like to work with me; Get that “yes/no” in your body, your intuition.
Lou: Perfect. Awesome. Yeah, so you work with people in person in Phoenix? Or online as well?
Kat: Yeah in person in Phoenix, and then I actually end up working with more people all over the world via Zoom.
I find that people that are very values aligned find me. A lot of them tend to live outside of Phoenix outside of the U.S.
Lou: You are a rare treasure
Kat: Thanks so much it was such a pleasure to come in and chat with you. Yeah I’m very grateful to be connected.
Lou: Excellent! Yeah I’m really glad we could have this little chat. Thank you Kat. I’ll see you on the interwebs.
Kat: Yes I look forward to it.
