Episode 022: Measuring success – what results to look for in paid ads

May 24, 2024 | Podcast

In this episode I explain what all the different results and metrics mean in Facebook ads (this also generally explains Google Ads). This is intended for those in the beginner or early stage of managing their own ads, and is aimed to help understand what you’re getting yourself into. I also take a dive into platform and appropriateness for health-related businesses, and how current trends in 2024 may impact how you appear in Google Ads.

I’m a passionate digital marketer, who has worked in this industry since 2011 and have managed ads for clients since 2019. I do want to help businesses grow and succeed, but in my good conscience, I want your time and money spent in ways that actually move the needle for you.

Summary

  • What are impressions? An impression doesn’t necessarily mean someone was impressed by your ad. The impression metric is the number of times an ad appeared on someone’s screen.
  • Reach is a good metric to look at to see the number of people who saw your content.
  • Want to know how many times an ad was clicked on, or a video was viewed with intent? That’s engagement!
  • Ads can generate leads, and we can track them. Leads are one of the good ad results to track. With some ad types and website platforms, we can see a cost in ad spend per lead.
  • ROAS or ROI shows you the return on what you’ve invested in your ad. With some ad types and website platforms, we can track how much of your ad spend led to a purchase.
  • Knowing your AOV and what sales goals you want can help you figure out how much to spend on ads.
  • Before stepping into a platform use data and insights to help you decide which strategy is appropriate.
    • An example I give is regarding “bulk billing psychologists”.
    • You may want to show up on Google search, but trends in 2024 indicate that it may not be best. Especially if you offer a premium service. You don’t want to be on a platform where customers are looking for fast and inexpensive help.
  • A good advisor will help you find the right solution.
