Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Help With Your Existing Website, Digital Marketing Advice, SEO

Can you take a look around at my website, and tell me what I can improve?

I certainly can! However, “improvement” depends entirely on your specific business goals. To give you a recommendation that actually moves the needle, I need to know if we’re solving for visibility (SEO), user experience (UX), or lead generation.

The best way to start is with my Website Self-Assessment PDF – The Hallmarks of a Healthy Website. It’s a brief exercise designed to help you look at your site through a strategic lens. Once you’ve gone through those questions, we can have a much more productive conversation about the specific “fixes” that will actually grow your business.

I have some content on my website I don't know how to change. Can you do it for me and tech me what you did?

I certainly can fix the site, but I’ve found that “showing you how” is rarely the best use of your budget. My goal is to deliver a high-performing, lead-generation tool so you can get back to your actual work.

Learning the technical “how-to” of web design often takes significantly more time than simply having a professional set it up correctly the first time. For that reason, I focus on Implementation and Strategy rather than 1-on-1 technical training. I want you to have a website that works for you, not a new technical hobby to manage.

I don't know if you can help with what I've got. Can we hop on a quick phone call? Or DM conversation?

The best first step is to send through a quick outline of what you’re working with and what you’d like to achieve. That way I can review things properly and let you know if it’s a good fit (and what the next steps would look like).

Once I’ve had a look, I can suggest the most useful way to move forward.

I need some help with my Wix website. Can you do it?

I specialise in maintenance and customisation for WordPress and Squarespace websites only.

I also offer SEO strategy and implementation for WordPress, Squarespace, and Shopify websites.

Unfortunately, I do not provide support for Wix, GoDaddy, or any other website platforms. If your site is built on a platform other than WordPress or Squarespace, I won’t be able to assist with updates or customisations.

I heard you can help with Google Ads / Paid Ads. Do you?

I used to, but not anymore. Here is why.

To cut a long story short, I realised as the complexities of ads evolved, it felt less and less fun for me.

If are looking for education or help in this realm, I have listed some helpful resources for you on this page.

I'm having trouble deciding which website platform, strategy, or tool to use. Can you help before I make an expensive mistake?

Absolutely.

The last thing I want to see is busy business owners waste money on something that isn’t beneficial. Whether that’s a service I offer, or a $10K investment in Google Ads.

This is where a Paid Discovery session would be a good fit. Let me know what your goals are, and I’ll do the necessary research and technical heavy lifting to guide you on the best tools. You can use this as an opportunity to think things through and ask me questions before making any big decisions.

Q&A About Getting a New Website

How long does it take to build my website?

On average, a strategic website project takes between 4 to 8 weeks from start to launch.

This timeline is split into two phases: Strategy & Design (where we map out the lead-generation path and user experience) and Development (where the actual building happens). The speed of the project is a collaborative effort; having your written content ready and providing timely feedback on mockups ensures we stay on the faster end of that window.

How much will it cost to redesign or make my new website?

I typically engage with website projects with a budget of AUD $2,500 or greater.

Are there any 'hidden costs' or 'sneaky fees' to be aware of?

I believe in full transparency and clear communication throughout every project. There are no hidden costs or unexpected fees; however, certain changes or additions may impact the project scope and budget. These include:

  • Changes to page design or content after initial approval.
  • Requests for new custom graphics, as icons and stock photos are not included in the base project.
  • Additional features or ideas introduced during the project.
  • Pausing the project to reconsider your business strategy.

I do not charge ongoing fees unless you request website maintenance services. Additionally, I do not require clients to sign lock-in contracts, ensuring flexibility and trust in our working relationship.

If any potential adjustments arise, I will always discuss them with you upfront before proceeding.

How do I keep my website updated and maintained?

Maintenance and updates are crucial to ensure your website remains secure and performs optimally. Here’s what you need to know based on the platform and services:

  • For WordPress websites, maintenance plans are highly recommended. Unless you use managed web hosting or engage in a Maintenance Retainer with me, you will be responsible for keeping your site updated and secure. Please discuss your options with me before the project begins if you are uncertain.
  • If your site is built on Squarespace, technical maintenance is handled by the platform, so you won’t need to manage updates or security yourself.
  • I provide maintenance and customisation services only for WordPress and Squarespace websites. For sites built on other platforms, or if your website was developed by another provider, I may not be able to assist.
  • After your website is launched, maintaining and updating your content, as well as driving marketing efforts to generate traffic and sales, becomes your responsibility. Publication alone does not guarantee sales.
  • Should you require content updates or consulting support from me, my hourly rate of $120 applies.
  • Additionally, I offer ongoing lead and traffic generation services through SEO on a retainer basis.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about maintaining your site.

Will I own the website you make for me?

Yes! You’re in control here.

Some web developers and agencies run on a model where you ‘lease’ your website, or otherwise don’t have access to the admin tools.

When I build a website for you, I welcome you to own it your way. Whether you want to make edits yourself, or stay on a retainer with me to help you, either option is valid!

I saw you helped someone build an online shop. Can you do it for me?

Occasionally, I take on Shopify website setups, but this is handled on a case-by-case basis at my discretion. In some cases, I may engage a trusted subcontractor to assist with the project. Any associated subcontractor fees are included within the overall project fee you pay to me, ensuring a seamless and transparent process.

What do you need to start a website?

This is a great and very common question. I have explained in detail in this under 30 minute presentation. I aim to not leave any stone unturned for you.

Q&A About ‘Lou Kozlevcar’

How do I say 'Kozlevcar' and what nationality are you?

To make this easy for you, it’s best to see it in groups of three: Koz, lev, char (the ‘cha’ as in charcoal). You can hear me pronounce my name in some of my YouTube videos.

I have a very mixed Eurasian heritage (mainly Croatian, Armenian, and Italian), but I like to say I’m a child of the world. 😊 I was born in Australia, live in Australia, and speak English.

Are you a web designer or web developer?

Either term is applicable to me.

A web designer decides how a website looks, and might use visual tools (like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe XD, or Figma) to mock it up. And a front-end web developer writes code (like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) to “program” a web interface. I have skills and experience in both areas, so I may use the terms interchangeably for myself.

Can we meet/work together in person?

Face-to-face strategy sessions, tutorials, and workshopping together are available to paying clients.

This currently is available at Balam Balam Place, Brunswick, Victoria, Australia. Please reach out to discuss.

What is your phone number?

My phone number is not on my website because I hate spam. You’re welcome to send me a video or audio message via VideoAsk.

What's the best way to contact you?

Usually I’m very open and respectful your “brain differences”.

  • If you hate phone calls and meetings? Don’t like eye contact? Cool! I can work with that. Email and voice notes/voicemail are good for me here.
  • If you need phone calls and meetings, that’s okay. I like to use our time purposefully, and not just chit chat about the weather.
  • If you’re not currently on a SEO or management retainer, “brain picking” is charged at my consulting rate of $120/hr.
  • Paying clients who are in active projects or retainers are also welcome to message me via Telegram. (My handle is given to you if you’re an active client.)

Ultimately, email is easy because it lets me think before responding. 😊

Why do you look away from me / the camera sometimes?

I want to assure you that when I look away from your face or the camera during meetings, it’s not because I dislike you or that you have done something wrong. It’s also not a sign of lacking confidence. For me, it’s simply a natural way my mind works in social situations. Sometimes, looking directly at someone’s face or a camera can be overstimulating for my senses, so I do this to help me focus better and process information more effectively. It’s just a personal trait that helps me engage in the conversation in my own way.

I heard you hate AI, but you also talk about using it. What's the deal?

I don’t hate AI.

What I hate is some of the things people use it for.

Because I have studied and experience in fine arts and creative writing, I don’t appreciate what some people are doing. I specifically mean people using AI to generate fine art, commercial art, creative fiction writing and saying “I made this!” or “Look at the money I saved by not paying an artist!” — It’s that specific application of AI that I hate. It’s a kick in the teeth for anyone who has worked hard to build their creative muscle, and I won’t stand for it.

I won’t police what you decide to put on your own website. But I won’t create AI-generated art or graphics for your site at your request.
