WordPress Care Plans: Simple Protection for Established Websites
WordPress care plans can be helpful for older websites that need routine maintenance, backups, and monitoring. That said, I generally recommend managed WordPress hosting as the better long-term option for most businesses because it offers stronger infrastructure and support at the hosting level.
I offer WordPress care plans for Melbourne businesses that need simple protection for an older site, a website in transition, or a short-term maintenance arrangement.

Managed WordPress Hosting Is Usually the Better Option
Before we talk about care plans, let’s talk about what I recommend first: managed WordPress hosting.
For Melbourne businesses, that usually means choosing a managed WordPress host that can provide stronger day-to-day platform support than a lightweight standalone care plan.
Managed WordPress hosts are built specifically to handle the things that most care plans try to replicate — backups, platform updates, security monitoring, and rapid response to outages or hacks. The difference is that managed hosts handle these at the infrastructure level, not as an added service on top of basic hosting.
That means:
- Backups are automatic and integrated with your hosting environment
- Security monitoring and malware response are part of the package
- Platform performance and uptime are the host’s responsibility
- Technical support is available when something breaks
My WordPress care plan is not designed to replace that level of infrastructure and support. If your site can be moved to managed hosting, that’s what I’ll recommend. Care plans are for the exceptions — not the rule.
If you’re not sure whether managed hosting is right for your site, I’m happy to help you evaluate your options. But I won’t position a care plan as a long-term substitute when better infrastructure is available.

When a WordPress Care Plan Still Makes Sense
There are a few specific situations where a WordPress care plan is the right fit, at least for now. I usually provide WordPress care plans in Melbourne for businesses with older websites, transitional setups, or practical constraints that make a hosting move difficult right now. These are the exceptions where I’ll take on care work:
During a rebuild or migration
If your site is in transition — undergoing a rebuild, a migration, or a relaunch — a care plan can provide temporary protection while that work is underway. The arrangement is clearly short term, and the long-term goal is still a more stable hosting and support setup once the transition is complete.
As a short-term stopgap
Sometimes a business needs a simple maintenance layer for a limited period while bigger decisions are being made. A care plan can help reduce risk in the meantime, but it’s not intended as a forever solution.
Bundled with an SEO retainer
If we’re already working together on an SEO retainer and your site needs basic WordPress maintenance, I can bundle that into our arrangement as a convenience. This keeps everything under one roof while we’re actively improving your site’s performance and visibility.
But here’s the important part: as part of our SEO work, I’ll also help you evaluate whether managed WordPress hosting would give you better speed, security, and support long-term. If it makes sense, I’ll guide you through the transition. The goal is to set you up with the best possible infrastructure, not to keep you dependent on a care plan indefinitely.
When hosting cannot be changed yet
There may be technical, contractual, organisational, or budget reasons a move to managed hosting cannot happen immediately. In those cases, the care plan provides basic protection in the meantime. But we both understand this is a holding pattern, not the ideal end state.

What My WordPress Care Plan Includes
This is a basic maintenance and monitoring plan designed for older WordPress websites that need simple, ongoing protection. It covers routine upkeep — not technical support or emergency work.
Here’s what’s included for AUD $65 per month:
WordPress core, plugin and theme updates
- WordPress core updates
- Plugin updates
- Theme updates
- Careful update handling and routine oversight rather than ad hoc updates
Regular backups
- Regular backups are included as part of the plan
- If something goes wrong after an update, I can roll back to a previous backup state that I’ve already saved
- I cannot restore or recover data from before the care plan started — rollback protection only applies to backups created during our arrangement

What's Not Included
This plan is for routine maintenance, not technical support or emergency work. Many WordPress care plans in the market include broader support, security work, or performance help — mine does not. Here’s what falls outside the scope:
Fixes or troubleshooting
- Bug fixing is not included
- Break/fix support is not included
- Debugging plugin conflicts or theme problems is not included
- These jobs can still be done separately at my hourly rate
Malware removal
- Malware cleanup is not included
- Hack recovery is not included
- Security incident response is not included
- This is one of the reasons I recommend managed hosting — hosts are set up to respond to these events quickly
Content updates
- Uploading or editing content is not included
- Formatting pages or posts is not included
- Small website edits are not included
- Again, these can be handled separately as billable work

Pricing
Monthly care plan: AUD $65/month
The care plan is AUD $65 per month. It’s designed for simple, ongoing protection and is best suited to older WordPress websites that need routine upkeep rather than full support.
Extra support and edits: AUD $120/hour
Additional work outside the plan is billed at AUD $120 per hour, in half-hour increments. This applies to fixes, troubleshooting, edits, content updates, or other work that isn’t covered by the monthly plan.
You’ll always know what falls inside the monthly plan and what is billed separately.

Who This Is Best For
- ‘Legacy’ WordPress websites that still need basic protection
- Melbourne and Australian businesses that are in transition and need short-term support
- SEO clients who need light maintenance bundled in while active work is underway, with a move to managed hosting encouraged
- Site owners who understand this is a limited maintenance service, not an all-inclusive support plan
Who This Is Not For
- Businesses expecting emergency support
- Websites needing active troubleshooting or frequent development help
- Sites that should really be moved to managed WordPress hosting now
- People looking for unlimited edits, malware cleanup, or hands-on technical support as part of the monthly fee
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a WordPress care plan if I'm on managed WordPress hosting?
Usually, no. Managed hosting is generally the stronger long-term option for most businesses because it handles backups, performance, security, and support at the infrastructure level. My care plan is mainly for exceptions and older sites that can’t move to managed hosting yet.
Is this plan the same as WordPress support?
No, it’s a maintenance plan rather than an all-inclusive support arrangement. The plan covers routine updates, backups, and basic monitoring. Fixes, troubleshooting, and edits are billed separately at my hourly rate or VIP day rates.
Do you fix hacked websites?
No, malware removal and hack response are not included in the plan. This is one reason I recommend managed hosting if that level of protection and rapid response is important to you. Managed hosts are set up to handle security incidents quickly.
Can you restore my website if something goes wrong?
Yes, but only if the issue happens while you’re on the care plan and I have backups already saved. I can roll back to a previous update state that I’ve captured. I cannot restore data or recover from problems that occurred before the plan started, as I won’t have earlier backups on file.
Can this be bundled with SEO?
Yes, in some cases. If we’re already working together on an SEO retainer, light WordPress maintenance can be bundled in for convenience. That said, I will still recommend managed hosting when it becomes the better next step. The goal is to improve your site’s long-term setup, not keep you dependent on a care plan.
Is there a contract or minimum term?
No lock-in. You can cancel anytime with notice. The plan is designed to be flexible, especially since it’s often a short-term or transitional arrangement.
Do you offer WordPress care plans for Melbourne businesses only?
No, I can happily support businesses across Australia.
Where are you? Will you come to us?
I’m based in Brunswick, but all WordPress care work is done remotely. I don’t offer on-site visits for maintenance, updates, or support. Everything is handled online, which keeps costs down and means I can work with businesses across Australia.

Lou helped me with several items on my WordPress website’s backend that had been stumping and frustrating me for months. Lou went above and beyond! Highly recommend 🫶.
